The German cockroach (Blatellica Germanica) is a small species of cockroach associated with kitchens. It hides in cracks and crevices (Thigmotactic – prefers confined spaces). It is sensitive to light and comes out in the dark to eat food and drink water. The German cockroach is the most successful reproducing cockroach because the female holds onto her egg capsule, which has 24 to 48 nymphs, until it’s ready to hatch. These nymphs are able to reproduce in 60 days. The adults are scavengers and will eat most any food. To successfully control and eliminate a German cockroach population sanitation, exclusion and various pest control products must be employed.
